Contempt? as in feeling as if they're your enemies? I'm struggling with one person, a father-in-law, and his love of money and things. His greed is driving him to manipulating the system of rules. These thoughts and feelings are the 'dark corner' of my soul that I'm hoping Jesus will come in and totally clean out. That He'll remove my burdens of anger or hatred, jealousy in the way "it's not fair!" that I'm working through debt the 'hard way'. I want God to remove the fear and terror I have towards the man - to be able to stand up for myself to him, but graciously and with compassion.
I thought it interesting that Amy wrote about this the day you posted your statement. Did you post in reply to what you read?
She devotes July 10 to loving your enemies - when David is calling out to God for help with a specific person. He proclaims his faith in God, asks for help, and then worships and praises!
Amy writes: "According to Matthew 5:23-24 the first thing to do is to go to Cush and try to get things straight. If that fails, the right thing to do is not to discuss it with others, or to be miserable about it, brooding over it in a dreadful gloomy silence. The right thing is to sing."
Katie, I pray that you will find your singing voice, and that you allow Jesus to come in and calm your contemptuous feelings. And sis, I pray the same for me.
I'll have to go reread that day. Can't remember if I did.
I'm not sure it's contempt to an enemy, but that may just depend how you define things. More, a disgust with their own love of money, manipulations of the system, lazy attitudes, "disciplining" of their children, abrasive rudeness...
Singing... hmmm... not sure that's my strong point ;-)
